Today we’re delighted to reveal the cover for Grandpa’s Scroll by Ginger Park and Frances Park, illustrated by Kim Dong Hoon! The book will be released in March 2023 by Albert Whitman. Preorder it here, here, or here.
Lily lives in Washington, DC. Her grandpa lives in Korea. They’ve never met but are good pen pals. Just when he is about to visit Lily in the U.S., Grandpa dies. Lily and her mom fly to Korea, where they uncover the rice paper scroll Grandpa had hoped to finish painting with Lily. To honor his wish, Lily writes a poem about her grandfather that sits just below his poem about her, so that in the end, they have finished it together.

A word from the authors:
As Korean American sisters and authors of many children’s books, we write about our heritage in a way that covers universal ground. Grandpa’s Scroll was inspired by our father’s love of Korean calligraphy and letter writing. When we were children, he often traveled for work to far corners of the globe, leaving the family for long periods of time. But at least we could check the mailbox every day, knowing what awaited us: one of his loving letters. We lost our father unexpectedly in 1979, but his letters still connect us to him. — Ginger & Frances Park
