WNDB established the Educators Making a Difference Grants to support educators who believe in the power of diverse books by diverse authors.

General Information

Each Educators Making a Difference grant will provide up to $2000 per recipient and can be used toward buying diverse titles, hosting diversity-focused student or community events, diversity audits of existing collections, or any other project that supports diverse literature.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a teacher, librarian, or other educator, employed in a student-facing role where they work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Applicants should be employed at least part-time at a school, library, or educational organization. Substitutes are not currently eligible.
  • This is a United States-based grant so the applicant must be an educator at a US-based school or organization.
  • Applicant must plan to use grant funds to integrate diverse literature in their classroom, through diversity audits of an existing collection, hosting diversity-focused student or community events, book purchases, author visits, activities, book clubs, school-wide reads, and other projects that support diverse literature. Applicant must provide a list of diverse titles if they plan to purchase books with grant funds.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

Submission Guidelines

  • The following are required for consideration:
    • Full name
    • Any former legal names you've had that have been registered with the U.S. government*
    • Address
    • E-mail address
    • Phone number
    • A brief statement explaining how the applicant intends to use the grant money to further diversity teaching in their classroom. (max 500 words)
    • A brief statement describing the community that your school serves. What impact would your proposed project have? (max 200 words)
    • Applicant must provide a list of diverse titles if they plan to purchase books with grant funds.
    • Project Budget: Please offer a general overview for how you would use the $2000. Here is a sample: SAMPLE BUDGET: Item, Description, Total Cost. Classroom Set of Books, 30 copies of FRESH INK, 600. Craft Supplies for Activity, Paper, Pens, Stickers for Poster Wall, 150. Author Visit, Author Fee for Virtual Visit, 500. Diverse Books for Classroom Library, Selection of Grade Specific Diverse Titles, 750.*Please note:
      • Under Executive Order 13224, all 501(c)(3) organizations must confirm that grant recipients are not affiliated with federally identified terrorist groups. To comply, if you are awarded a grant, we must compile any of your former legal names that have been registered with the United States government. We are aware that we are asking for potentially sensitive information and we sincerely apologize for this intrusion. WNDB will keep this information in the utmost confidence and will never use any former name(s) in our correspondence with you.

Formatting

  • All of the above must be submitted using our online application form below.
  • Any submission received that does not meet these requirements will be purged without being read.
