WNDB is happy to announce our new program — WNDB Summer Reading. Beginning this July, we will be focusing on three titles: picture book Antiracist Baby by Ibram X. Kendi and illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky, middle grade A Good Kind of Trouble by Lisa Moore Ramée, and YA Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. While many of us are home during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is our way of helping families engage in discussions about race and diversity.
Each week, we will highlight one title, with messages from the creators, blog posts, and more. We will also provide educational resources for parents including comprehension questions, activities, and recommendations for additional reading.
The schedule will be:
Week of July 13th: A Good Kind of Trouble by Lisa Moore Ramée
Week of July 20th: Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
Week of July 27th: Antiracist Baby by Ibram X. Kendi and illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky
WNDB is happy to be partnering with Mahogany Books, a Black-owned bookstore in Washington, DC, for this program. Please consider ordering your books with them. Email your receipt from Mahogany Books to carolinerichmond@wndb.local to receive #WNDBSummerReading bookmarks and WNDB stickers, while supplies last.
We hope you’ll join this summer — let’s read and learn together.
