New York, NY (December 19, 2017)—We Need Diverse Books™ (WNDB), a grassroots organization dedicated to advocating for and supporting marginalized narratives, will publish its next middle-grade anthology with Random House Children’s Books, it was announced today by Phoebe Yeh, VP/Publisher of Crown Books for Young Readers. Yeh acquired world rights to a middle-grade anthology from Barry Goldblatt of BG Literary, and the collection will be edited by We Need Diverse Books™ team member Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich.
As in the past, WNDB hosted a short-story contest for a spot in the anthology by an unpublished diverse author. The winner will receive payment of $1,000 US. The contest was open to diverse middle-grade authors who are previously unpublished in any format. WNDB defines diversity as including, but not limited to, LGBTQIA+, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities marginalized in North America.
